A Safe Space for LGBTQ+ Massage Therapy in the Twin Cities
It might be a bit of an understatement to say that, even with the Covid cloud starting to recede, many of us are still feeling a tremendous amount of stress.
In the Twin Cities especially, the last year-and-a-half has been...a lot. And while we don’t want to be flippant and suggest that a massage will solve all of your or our cities’ problems, (it won’t), study after study has shown that regular massages increase physical and emotional health and wellbeing. In the big picture, getting a massage may feel like a small thing, but it can have real long term benefits for us, and, by extension, our communities.
However, as with most health-related endeavors, being LGBTQ+ can add an extra layer of complexity or even discomfort to getting a massage. Despite it being 2021, statistics show that lesbian, gay, and bisexual folks are still 9% more likely to face discrimination when they seek healthcare and/or wellness services. According to the same study, the percentage of transgender folks facing discrimination is even higher at 29%. This leads to many LGBTQ+ folks delaying or ignoring their healthcare, which has negative impacts on overall health.
The long and short of it is, with all the added anxiety that most of us our carrying right now, no one needs the stress of booking a massage and then worrying that the space won’t be warm and inviting, or that you’ll somehow get lesser service because of your identity, or that the therapist will look at you differently when you and your partner book a couple’s massage.
At Jeromeo, we are honored to treat people of all genders, sexualities, races, and cultures, and we welcome our LGBTQ+ clients, and do everything in our power to make them feel heard, seen, and respected. We will let you set your own boundaries, be responsive to your unique needs, and work with you to provide the best massage possible. We also welcome couples of every possible configuration, and will give you the space and service to bond and grow closer through your shared massage.
These promises aren’t just words to us. We live and work our mission of equality everyday, and we were recently named 2021 Business of the Year by Quorum, the LGBTQ+ and Allied Chamber of Commerce of the Twin Cities.
In Quorum’s own words, we “celebrate [Jeromeo’s] dedication, innovation, and embodiment of leadership that drives both personal success and the success of those around them. [They] have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive community.”
We at Jeromeo truly feel honored to be recognized for our efforts to serve and strengthen the LGBTQ+ community in the Twin Cities. We will continue to do this work, as it is both important and fulfilling.
